24 Preludes & Fugues for Painters

This group show is a part of “March Music Moderne,” a contemporary music festival happening in Portland throughout the month of March.  A number of the concerts and recitals in the festival–as well as the art in this show–are centered around the music of Dmitri Shostakovich.

This show will feature 24 paintings, each inspired by a Prelude and Fugue from Shostakovich’s “24 Preludes and Fugues for Piano, op.87”. The artists have visually interpreted their assigned fugues based on the inspiration they received from listening to the music.  Works are in a variety of styles and may be abstract, representational, or anywhere in between.

My assigned prelude and fugue evoked the energy and happiness of springtime, a welcome distraction during a dark, wet Portland winter. Warmth and beauty envelop the young subjects, with the hummingbird–which represents joy–stopping time for a magical moment.

When: Artist reception March 14, 6 – 9 pm
(Art will be on display Feb 23 – March 31).
Where: Muse Art & Design; 4220 SE Hawthorne
