Oil on wood; 14”x17”; framed in black wood frame
This is part of my series "Mythed Flight". I’ve reimagined winged mythological women using my own interpretations & symbols, and endowed them with unconventional wings.
In Norse mythology, Freyja is a goddess associated with love, sex, beauty, fertility, gold, war, and death. Freyja is the owner of an envied gold necklace named “Brísingamen”, rides a chariot pulled by two cats, and possesses a cloak of falcon feathers. She is said to have cried tears of red-gold. The flowers crowning her head are called “Freyja’s Tears”.
