Oil on wood; 14”x17”; framed in black wood frame

This is part of my series "Mythed Flight". I’ve reimagined winged mythological women using my own interpretations & symbols, and endowed them with unconventional wings.

In Norse mythology, a valkyrie is a female figure who chooses those who die in battle and those who live. My depiction of the Valkyrie is adorned with a horned Norse helmet. Her fingers shape the ASL word for “fate”. The Valkyrie is associated with the raven. In this case, the raven has two heads - facing opposite directions/fates.
